Ka Pomblang Nongkrem takes place in early November. It is the most important religious festival of the Khasis. It is a 5-day event held at Smit where the famous Nongkrem dance is performed. 

Shad Suk Mynseim
("the Dance of Joy"), a colourful thanksgiving Khasi festival, takes place in April. Men and women, dressed in traditional costumes, dance to the accompaniment of drums and pipes.

Behdienkhlam is a 4-day monsoon event celebrated in July in Jowai and Tuber in the Jaintia Hills. It features religious ceremonies, processions, dancing and an ancient game ("datlawakor"), akin to football but played with a wooden ball.

Wangala
is the major Garo festival and is celebrated after the harvest season. Held between November and December, it includes propitiation followed by elaborate rituals. It culminates in the spectacular 'Dance of a Hundred Drums' - a warrior dance.
