Food is exclusive. We leave for the historic Jaintia village of Nartiang at 7am. Upon reaching this traditional Hindu village we will be greeted by the Priest of the Nartiang Temple who will tell us about the creation of this Jaintia village, the ancient seat of the Jaintia Kings. A short walk will take us to the legendary monoliths of Nartiang, the sacred graves of the ancestors of this village. We then visit a Durga Temple which is more than five hundred years old. After lunch, we leave the Jaintia Hills and proceed to the village of Smit in the East Khasi Hills where we will learn something of the richness of Khasi culture. The King of Khyrim resides in this village. His residence, Ling Sad, is a structure erected without the use of a single nail. All religious ceremonies and administration of the Khyrim State (a Khasi principality) are conducted in Ling Sad. We then proceed to a traditional herbal healing centre at Thangsning village which boasts of patients from all over the world. We stop at the picturesque Rock Garden where there are ample photo opportunities and proceed to a village called Laitlum for more breathtaking views. We conclude our trip with high tea including local rice pancakes at a village on our way back to Shillong. |
