There are two National Parks - Nokrek and Balpakram. The latter is also known as the "abode of perpetual winds" and is situated in the magnificent Grand Canyon-like Balakram Plateau which separates the Garo and Khasi Hills. The Nokrek Biosphere Reserve is 2kms away from Tura peak (1400m).

and Siju are the State's two Wildlife Sanctuaries which are becoming increasingly popular with tourists. Located near Siju are Naphak Lake, ideal for fishing and bird-watching and the Simsang Game Reserve. The limestone Siju Caves are famous for their stalactites and stalagmites resembling those found in the Blue Grotto in Capri.

Fauna & Flora : Meghalaya is rich in wildlife and species like the Golden Cat, Golden Langur and Hoolock Gibbon, native to the state. The state is also home to wealth of exotic butterfly and moth species. There are about 300 species of orchids, including some extremely rare ones like the insect-eating Pitcher Plant, Blue Vanda, Lady's Slipper, Wild Citrus and Pygmy Lily
